What is a Ransomware?
It is simply a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid.
Blocking the access is done by encrypting any valuable data that is stored on your computer.
The WannaCry Ransomware Attack
WannaCrypt, WanaCrypt0r 2.0 or Wanna Decryptor is designed to find computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system with a special kind of security vulnerability. WannaCry ransomware cryptoworm does the cyberattack on those systems by encrypting data and demanding ransom payments in the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.
The Global Impact
Around 200,000 computers were infected across 150 countries out of which Russia, Ukraine, India and Taiwan are the most affected.
